Professor Maryam Baraka Akor-Dewu is a scholar and educator in the field of Human Physiology, with a career spanning over two decades at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, having risen through the ranks to become a professor, which is a testament to her dedication, intellectual rigor, and leadership.
Her academic journey, rooted in Ahmadu Bello University, reflects a steadfast commitment to excellence. She earned her B.Sc, M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Human Physiology, laying a strong foundation. Her work spans critical areas such as oxidative stress, reproductive health, environmental physiology, and the impacts of substance exposure on physiological systems. Her numerous peer reviewed articles, demonstrate her ability to bridge complex scientific concepts with real world applications, particularly in resource-challenged settings.
As an educator, Professor Akor-Dewu has mentored countless undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervising numerous theses and dissertations.
