Isyaku Umar Yarube is a Professor of Physiology based in the Neuroscience and Pathophysiology Unit of the Department of Human Physiology, College of Health Sciences, Bayero University, Kano, and Elrazi Medical University, Kano, Nigeria.
His research area is dementia and cognitive impairment in different disease states.
He is a member of the Physiological Society of Nigeria (PSN), Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Neuroscience Society of Nigeria (NSN), African Association of Physiological Sciences (AAPS), Society of Neuroscientists of Africa (SONA), International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), The Physiological Society (UK) (currently the Society Representative for BUK), among others.
He obtained his medical degree in 1997 from the prestigious Sechenov Moscow Medical University, Moscow, Russia. He also has MSc and PhD degrees from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Nigeria; and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Nigeria. He has received additional training in 25 training workshops in different areas, including CPR, health research ethics, advanced research methods, biostatistics, and teaching techniques. In his over 22 years of teaching and research experience at the graduate and postgraduate levels, he has supervised many Bachelor, Master and Doctorate degrees; has published more than 50 articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals, including Nigerian Journal of Physiological Sciences (PSN), Pathophysiology (Elsevier) and Physiology and Behaviour (Elsevier); and has 25 papers presented in about 20 national and international scientific conferences to his name. He has received a number of grants for Seminar events from The Physiological Society (UK).
Prof. Yarube has a rich leadership and administrative experience. He serves a number of national and international journals as editor and reviewer; the Neuroscience Society of Nigeria as the Public Relations Officer and Assistant Secretary General, and the National Universities Commission (NUC) as resource person in accreditation of Physiology and Medicine programs in Nigerian universities. He served as the Deputy Provost, College of Health Sciences, Head of Department of Physiology, Deputy Dean of Faculty, Sub-Dean and Coordinator for many academic programs.
He is currently serving as the Deputy Vice Chancellor and Provost, College of Medicine, Elrazi Medical University, Kano.
